Review: Canon EOS M50
My presence travel gear

My gear for travel and photography

During my travels, I always bring a selection of gear that I truly rely on. Think cameras, lenses, a tripod, camera bags, and handy accessories such as power banks and spare batteries. On this page, I collect the gear that I use myself or regularly take with me on trips. Some links are affiliate links. If you order something via such a link, I may receive a small commission. This costs you nothing extra and helps me create new content for Reizen & Reistips.

Cameras

These are the cameras I use or have used during my travels. Some gear almost always comes along, while others I use primarily for specific types of photography.

Canon EOS R6 Mark II

This is currently my most important camera when traveling. I use it for cities, nature, and wildlife. The autofocus is fast, and it still produces very good images even in low light. For me, this is a nice all-round camera when I only want to take one body with me.

Canon EOS 80D

I used the Canon EOS 80D for years during trips and day trips. Nowadays I mainly use the Canon EOS R6, but this was a reliable camera for me to start with. And this camera still serves as a backup when I know I need a zoom lens or wide-angle lens.

Canon EOS M50

I mainly use the Canon EOS M50 as a compact camera for lighter trips and city breaks. It is quite a bit smaller than my other cameras, making it easy to carry around. Despite its compact size, it still delivers good images. Ideal when I don't want to walk around with heavy equipment.

Objectives

Lenses largely determine how your photo looks. During my travels, I usually bring a combination of an all-round lens and a few lenses for specific situations. Think of a wide-angle for landscapes or a telephoto lens for wildlife and details in the landscape.

Canon RF 24-105mm

I mainly use this lens as an all-round lens when traveling. It is handy for city walks, landscapes, and general travel photography. Especially when I don't want to keep switching lenses, this is a nice choice.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm

I use this wide-angle lens mainly for landscapes, architecture, and narrow streets in old cities. The wide angle of view allows you to capture a lot of the surroundings. That makes this lens very suitable for trips where you do a lot of city photography.

Canon EF50mm

The Canon 50mm is a lightweight and affordable lens that delivers surprisingly sharp images. I use it mainly for detail shots, portraits, and low-light situations. Thanks to the wide aperture, you can also create beautiful blurred backgrounds.

Canon EF-S 18-135mm

I used this lens for a long time as an all-round lens on my Canon EOS 80D. The range is wide enough for both landscapes and detail shots. As a result, you don't have to switch lenses as often. That is very practical for traveling.

Canon EF 70-300mm

I mainly use the Canon 70-300mm when I need a bit more reach. That can be handy for wildlife, birds, or details in the landscape. It is not an extremely heavy telephoto lens, making it reasonably easy to take along on trips.

Canon EF-M 15-45mm

This is the standard lens I use on the Canon EOS M50. It is compact and lightweight, making it pleasant for city trips or short journeys. For general photography such as street scenes and landscapes, this lens works fine.

Drone

With a drone, you can capture a destination from a completely different perspective. That is why I take a drone with me on some trips. Especially in nature reserves, mountains, or along the coast, this often yields special images.

DJI mini 2

I regularly take the DJI Mini 2 with me on trips for aerial photos and videos. The big advantage is that this drone is small and lightweight. As a result, it fits easily into a camera bag or backpack. Despite its compact size, it delivers sharp images and stable video.

Camera bag

A good camera bag is important when traveling with camera equipment. The bag must be sturdy, offer sufficient protection, and at the same time be comfortable to wear during longer days on the road. Below are the bags I use myself during my travels.

WANDRD Transit Travel 35L

I use the WANDRD Transit Travel Backpack when I travel with more camera equipment. This bag fits my camera, multiple lenses, and other accessories. The bag is sturdily built and designed for photographers. That makes it suitable for longer trips.

Hiking boots

Good walking shoes are important to me when traveling, especially when hiking in national parks or going on longer treks in the mountains. I use the shoes below on various trips and hikes. They offer sufficient grip, support, and comfort for longer days on the road.

Lowa Innovo Gore-Tex

I mainly use the Lowa Innovo Gore-Tex during hikes in hilly terrain and the mountains. The shoes offer excellent grip on rocky paths and remain comfortable even during longer treks. Furthermore, thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane, your feet stay dry in the rain or on wet trails. This makes these shoes suitable for hikes in national parks and mountain areas.

Lowa Low Renegade Evo

I often wear the Lowa Renegade Evo Low on trips where I do a lot of walking but don't need heavy hiking boots. They are lighter and more flexible than high hiking boots, but still offer sufficient support and grip. This makes them ideal for longer walks in cities, nature reserves, and slightly hilly terrain.

Accessories

In addition to cameras and lenses, there are also all kinds of accessories that make traveling easier. Think of a power bank, extra batteries, or other handy items you can use along the way. They are often small things that turn out to be very practical during a trip.

Anker PowerBank

A good power bank is indispensable when traveling. I use this Anker PowerBank to charge my phone, drone, or other devices when there is no power outlet nearby. With its large capacity, you can charge multiple devices before it needs to be recharged itself.
