When we travel together, we're not so keen on fancy, luxurious hotels. However, this is different when we go on vacation with my family for a week of relaxation. So, on May 13, 2016, my entire family traveled to Turkey, where we stayed at the Maxx Royal Kemer Resort. This was the third time we'd all traveled to Turkey together. In 2012, we visited the Rixos Hotel in Belek, and two years later, the Maxx Royal Belek Golf & Spa in the same city. Because my mother and sister also had fond memories of the Maxx Royal Kemer Resort, we decided last year to explore the Maxx Royal in Kemer together this year.
Maxx Royal Resorts is known as an exclusive hotel chain with two coastal locations: Belek and Kemer. Both hotels exude a high level of class and pay attention to the smallest detail. The hotels are spacious and offer ultimate luxury. Guests stay on a comprehensive 24-hour all-inclusive basis. There are several restaurants, a chocolatier and pastry shop, several bars, as well as swimming pools, a spa center, a fitness center, a games room, and plenty of activities to participate in.
We leave from Cologne with the whole family
Our holiday begins in Cologne, where we fly to Antalya with SunExpress. The flight times are ideal; we fly out just after 3:30 in the morning. After a flight of over three hours, we land in Antalya that very morning, so we essentially have a whole day ahead of us. At the airport, we're met by an old friend of my mother's. He takes us to Kemer, which is over an hour's drive from Antalya.
The view from our Laguna Suite
Our arrival at our hotel was a bit chaotic. We had to wait a while for our assistant to show up, and the offered glass of champagne was also delayed. But eventually, we received good news from our assistant: we'd been upgraded to a larger room. When we were then escorted to our rooms, we couldn't be more pleased. We were staying in a Maxx Laguna Duplex Suite, a "hotel room" of over 250m². Our suite contained two bedrooms with private bathrooms and two outdoor terraces, one directly overlooking the pool and the other with a jacuzzi on the balcony. After a delicious breakfast, we caught up on some sleep on the beach and ended our first day with a delightful meal at the Bronze Steak House.
The ultimate relaxation by the pool
We're not doing much else this week. Basically, it boils down to sleeping, having breakfast, reading a book on a lounger by the pool or the beach, napping or playing games, having lunch together, returning to the pool or beach, having coffee with a pastry or chocolate, getting ready for dinner, and then checking out the disco or one of the bars. The ultimate relaxation, not bad at all.
The only excursion to the top of Tahtali in the Taurus Mountains
The only excursion we're making is to the Taurus Mountains, where we're planning to visit the summit of Tahtali. It's important to check the mountaintop in the morning to ensure it's not shrouded in clouds. If it is, a trip to Tahtali is not recommended, as you won't be able to see anything. That's why we postponed our trip the first time until the next day. We arranged a taxi and were dropped off at the cable car that would take us to the summit. Don't be alarmed; the cable car ride up and down costs €32 per person. The cable car takes you to the summit of Tahtali, at an altitude of 2365 meters, in just 10 minutes. From there, you have a view of the sea and the magnificent Taurus Mountains.
These silver cameras can be found throughout the complex; the Best Instagram Points
I'm also having a great time at the hotel. I discovered a booklet with an Instagram route through the entire property. I'd already spotted a large silver camera with "Instagram Points" in several locations. The booklet also gives me an overview of where all these spots are located. It's a fun activity to walk the route and capture the hotel's most beautiful spots. A post with the best Instagram points will follow soon, of course.
